Pool Heater & Heat Pump Specialists in Texas

These Texas-licensed businesses put heaters, heat pumps or pool heating in their business name, which suggests they install and service pool heating equipment. Few businesses do, so licensed pool service and pool equipment contractors who don't mention heaters in their name are worth asking too. TDLR Residential Appliance Installation Contractors may install and replace pool heaters; always confirm the heater type they work on.

Why choose this

  • A business that names heaters or heat pumps is likely to install and repair them regularly.
  • Can compare heat pumps and gas heaters for your pool, usage and fuel options.
  • Often familiar with the electrical and gas connections a heater install needs.

Things to consider

  • Few businesses name pool heating explicitly, so you may need to look beyond this list.
  • A specialist may favor the heater type or brand they sell most; ask for options.
  • Busy in fall and spring, so book installs and repairs early.

Questions to ask

  • The contractor's TDLR license number (or TSBPE plumbing license for gas piping), so you can confirm it on the state license search.
  • Who pulls the permit (and any separate electrical, plumbing or gas permit) and whether permit fees are included.
  • The heater make, model and output, and how they sized it for your pool. Ask them to show the calculation.
  • Warranty terms: manufacturer warranty on the equipment and the contractor's own warranty on labor.
  • Heat pump vs. gas for your pool, and the trade-offs in heat-up speed and running cost.
  • Whether your existing pump, plumbing, electrical panel or gas supply needs upgrades.

No business in our current Texas license data carries this tag, which comes only from the business name. The related contractors below are a good place to start.

Also worth asking: pool equipment service & heater repair (194)

No listed business carries this tag yet. These TDLR-licensed pool businesses name pool service, care, repair or maintenance in their business name, and TDLR says Residential Appliance Installation Contractors may install and replace pool heaters, so they may also be able to help. They aren't tagged for pool heaters or heat pumps, so ask whether they install or service the heater type you want.

Frequently asked questions

Can a regular pool company install a pool heater?

Often, yes. Texas has no statewide swimming pool contractor license. TDLR guidance says Residential Appliance Installation Contractors (RAIC) may install and replace pool heaters, pumps, motors, automation and other pool electrical equipment on the load side. A new or upgraded electrical circuit needs a TDLR-licensed electrical contractor, and new gas piping for a gas heater needs a TSBPE-licensed plumber, so ask who will do each part of the job. See our hiring guide.

Should I choose a heat pump or a gas heater?

It depends on how you use the pool. Gas heaters heat quickly and can hold temperature in any weather, which suits pools used occasionally. Heat pumps usually cost more to buy but have lower running costs, and they work best when the air is mild. Our heat pump vs. gas guide covers the trade-offs.
